This picture of the Svartisen glacier was taken in 1892 by Heinrich Schiffmann. Schiffmann (1872-1904) was the son of a wealthy Swiss merchant. Unfortunately, he suffered from tuberculosis. Under medical advice and knowing that his illness would result in an early death, he made several long voyages, collecting ethnological objects and making beautiful photographs. |
